General Description: 

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who lead a frontline team and manage day-to-day operations of a retail store or department to implement and deliver on organisational objectives and standards. These individuals possess a range of highly developed selling and customer engagement skills with sound knowledge of product and service offerings. They work with independence, taking responsibility for their own functions and outputs.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including speciality retailers, supermarkets, department stores, and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as store manager, department manager and assistant store manager.

  • Prerequisites: 

    Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:

  • have achieved a Certificate III in Retail

    or

  • have relevant industry employment experience in a job role that has involved the application of skills and knowledge described in core units of competency from the SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning: 

    Recognition is available (on application) to students with prior skills, experience, knowledge or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training, in a related area. Recognition may reduce the duration of your studies (Subjective to evidence provide, mapped and assessed against the required unit/s of competency)

    To apply for RPL, please submit documentation in portfolio form for evaluation by AusCHS assessors.

    Assessment: 

    Competency determination is made after all relevant evidence is gathered. AusCHS is receptive to evidence gathered from a variety of sources including our own assessment processes. AusCHS assessment processes include:

    • Written reports/Portfolio Assessments

    Articulation: 

    After achieving SIR40212 Certificate IV in Retail Management, individuals may undertake:

  • SIR50116 Diploma of Retail Leadership
  • SIR80112 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Retail Leadership.
  • Modules/units: 

    11 units must be completed:

    7 core units
    4 elective units, consisting of:
    2 units from the list below
    2 units from the list below, elsewhere in SIR Retail Services Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.
    The selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

    Course Fees: 

    Smart and Skilled Student Fees (Only for NSW residents)

    The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 1300 600 888 for further information and advice.

    First qualification- $1560

    Second qualification- $1820

    Concession- $240

    Exemption- $0

    Trainees: from 2016 if you are starting a traineeship that is on the NSW Skills List, your Smart and Skilled fee for the whole qualification will not be more than $1,000.

    The fees indicated above are based on students being approved for training subsidised by the NSW Government. Students can pay their fee upfront or undertake a AUSCHS's Instalment Plan which will commence at the time of enrolment.
